Increased Demand for Student Loans

According to the Bank of North Dakota, demand for student loans is on the rise:
"Part of that is what's going on in the student loan industry itself and the financial crisis," says Julie Kubisiak, of BND student loan services. "Some lenders have chosen to leave the student loan program."

The National Center for Public and Higher Education's 2008 report card gave North Dakota a failing grade for the amount of aid it pays students to attend college.

"I think they're saying that right now that it's ten cents on the dollar that North Dakota provides to it's North Dakota students," says Kubisiak. "So the legislature needs to take a look at what's available to assist North Dakotans to go to school and where do we want to spend the money."
